Give the Gift of time
Families are the heart of the SMS community. When families are engaged, they strengthen the home-school connection, showing children the value of learning. This partnership fosters a sense of belonging and empowers family members to support the child’s growth, while working with teachers creates a positive, nurturing environment for all.
Ways to get involved
"Never assume that you don’t have anything to give. Everybody has something to contribute, whether it’s systems knowledge, or serving hot chocolate at the cross country meet, or enthusiasm in decorating cookies. We all have something positive that we can bring to the school. And the joy that you get back is so disproportionate to the effort that goes is. The joy is massive and worth it."

EVENT PLANNING
Families can bring their creativity and organization to school events like holiday celebrations, field trips, and fundraisers. These efforts build community and create lasting memories for students and families.
PHILANTHROPY INITIATIVES
Families can actively support school fundraising efforts led by the Advancement Team, directly enhancing their child's educational experience. With tuition covering only 72% of total costs (52% after financial aid), fundraising helps bridge the gap, supporting programs, classroom supplies, teacher development, and student wellness initiatives.
FAMILY ASSOCIATION
Joining the Family Association gives families a deeper connection to the community and a voice in school activities. This group fosters a sense of community on campus while also collaborating with staff to ensure family perspectives are heard. SMS relies on family volunteers for a variety of events, activities and workshops throughout the year, making their contributions essential to the School’s mission.
CLASSROOM ENGAGEMENT
Families, share your expertise with our students. Whether you're in finance, healthcare, law, arts, tech, or another field, your insights could bring learning to life.
If you're interested, please fill out the form below with your profession, skills, and preferred grade levels. Help connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.
BOARDERS WITHOUT BORDERS
The "Boarders Without Borders" initiative fosters connections between boarding students and day families. Participating families will host two or more students for an evening of dinner and family activities. This program offers a unique opportunity to strengthen ties and build a more inclusive, connected school community.
The long-term goal is to enhance global awareness, promote inclusivity, and cultivate lasting cross-cultural friendships.
The first event will take place on Friday, November 22, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Mary Lue Emmerson, Director of Educational Pathways and Partnerships.
